I don't think China or Russia is interested in dedicating an entire agency to such foreign aid within their governments. And that begs whether we truly need a humanitarian agency with 90 stations abroad to funnel humanitarian support to needed places or if it is another encroachment strategy. The US can still continue helping save lives abroad without a dedicated agency to do so.

Don’t think Donald Trump and the Republicans thought this through.

China and possible Russia will fill the void. China is going to be the next power house as the United States is slowly losing its influence around the world.

Could come back and bite us in the behind.

What I am afraid of what if China tries to take Taiwan at this time?

To add to this debacle, they have just installed a white nationalist, Darren Beattie, as the Acting Undersecretary for Public Diplomacy at the State Department. State's world-wide PD programs were the other arm of US soft power, promoting US society, values, culture and education around the world. It will now just become another megaphone for MAGA lies and distortions.

I can't help thinking that someone or something will intervene to stop this madness. Am I alone?

You’re not alone, but interventions require political will - and right now, that might be in short supply.
